Loving yourself is an important part of developing high self-esteem. It allows you to take control of goals and set standards of becoming the best you. Less than a decade ago, I began to slowly gain weight. It was on average, less than 5lbs a year, but it added up. And the weight began to show. Before, I was always very slim, and obsessed with staying under 120lbs, at barely 5ft.
A couple of years ago, I was hit with a lot of tragedies in my life, which helped me to burn off those ugly pounds (the stress method of losing weight lol). Today, I’m 20lbs smaller. Although a size 8 is a nice size for me, I’m one chocolate bar away from having to squeeze into that size 8, instead of easily fitting into it.
In today’s world, size 8 enters into the curvy world. According to the US Census, the average dress size of US women is size 14; yet, commercially, we see women much smaller. This idea that beauty means wearing a size 0 is starting to diminish. We are seeing more high fashion designers who cater to “real women.”
Being proud of your curves does not mean that you are settling to be unhealthy. It means that you are content with your natural body makeup. While you’re on the journey to a healthier lifestyle, embracing your curves and loving the skin you’re in is a positive way to create a long-lasting journey to mental and physical well-being.
My professional career includes writing for a high-end lingerie company who specializes in designing sexy lingerie for women with curves. The founder is passionate about offering quality, comfort, and price conscious merchandise so that women are able to purchase lingerie that makes them feel sexy, confident, and fierce, no matter what body type.
So, love who you are, and create a journey that is designed especially for you. Set your standards based on how you see yourself in the world, not how the world might view you.
